Amsterdam

8th April 2019

Last week I went to Amsterdam with a friend for a few days. It’s been a tough start to the year and a catch up over coffee with a friend led to booking a mini break.  It was a much needed few days of mooching around pretty streets, eating pancakes and lots of walking.

Amsterdam has been on my list of places to visit to a while now,  but I was waiting for Lily to be a little older before we planned a trip. As much as I missed Hubby & Lily, on reflection, it was the right decision to head over there with a friend and tick Amsterdam off my list.

I’m not going to write long paragraphs about what we did etc. but I wanted to share a few things with you. If you’re planning your own trip there, they might be helpful!

Hotel – we stayed at The Hoxton in the Canal District. I would recommend this hotel, we loved it and felt we were in a great location for exploring.  Leaving the hotel each morning to be greeted by a beautiful canal lined with beautiful town houses was a real treat.

Amsterdam App – I downloaded the Amsterdam Curated City Guide. It was full of hand selected shops, eateries, locations etc. It was incredibly helpful and has a map you can follow… I think this is the perfect go to if you’re planning a visit.

Top Tip – A good map and some research before you go will serve you well!  There is so much to see in Amsterdam and unless you’re there for many nights, you probably won’t get round to see everything.  The Amsterdam app was invaluable and The Hoxton provided a cute little pocket map in the room .

Bicycles – I was warned before I went to keep an eye out for them. My advice to you, keep on the pavements and remember your green cross code!

Flight – I flew from East Midlands with FlyBe. The flight was 1 hour and everything ran smoothly. I intended to travel with one carry on bag, but I’m so pleased I decided to pay the extra and take a small suitcase to have spare shoes, another jacket, home comforts etc.

My favourite thing of all was to wander down the little streets, we covered miles. The gorgeous little shops and cafes made for perfect stops along the way.  You can probably see from my photos that the townhouses were my favourite, they lined every canal. I have uploaded all my Amsterdam photos to the Instagram Stories… click here to pop over and see all my images.
