A visit to The Garden Cafe at Colston Bassett Store is my idea of heaven. Set in idyllic cottage gardens in this most picturesque village, it really needs to be experienced.
The Garden Cafe Restaurant is so much more than the name suggests. The dining room is fabulous, from the travertine floor to the napkins, the attention to detail that has gone into it’s creation is obvious. They have waitress service where you can have morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea. All the cakes, scones and pastries are locally made by Jan, Martin and the team daily. The lunch menu always looks tempting and everything is freshly prepared mainly using ingredients from the Deli and locally grown vegetables, here is a selection of dishes to tempt you. Rocket and Parmesan salad with aged Parma Ham followed by Asparagus and Pecorino Tortelli with Sage Butter topped off with Home Made Cheesecake, delicious!
Adjoining The Garden Cafe Restaurant is Colston Bassett Store. At this traditional village store you are greeted by friendly staff and a stunning selection of produce which is displayed beautifully. Alongside locally made stilton, farm reared meats, fresh fruit, vegetables and freshly baked bread, Martin and Jan have carefully sourced delicious food and drink from all around the world. From pasta made in Italy to manchego cheese all the way from Spain, there is something for everyone to take home and enjoy.
Not just for foodies, The Store also offers a great selection handmade jewellery, bags, scarves and home accessories that are simply gorgeous. Its reputation for having an excellent selection of greetings cards for every occasion is well deserved.
You must visit The Garden Cafe Restaurant and Colston Bassett Store, it might not be on your doorstep but I promise you will return time after time as you too will love it.

Small menu, yet somehow just right. High quality, fresh food. Lovely ambience. Friendly service. Ideal place to relax with a newspaper and linger over lunch. Divine! Will be back again very soon!

Colston Bassett Shop and Cafe Restaurant is a divine place ! The cakes are lovely and all the food they sell is excellent, including Hambelton sour dough and muffins. The cheese and wine selection is brilliant too.Martin and Jan,the owners, are simply passionate about their job and it shows in the attention they give to every little detail.
