I took the opportunity to visit one Saturday and was delighted with what I found. We took our dogs, Molly and Toby, for a walk there and also stopped off at the Mill Restaurant for a bite to eat. The weather was great, so we sat outside next to the canal to enjoy the fantastic views.
The Mill Restaurant was quite a find, they offer a great menu of made to order food. As you walk into the restaurant the delightful smell hits you, which makes it almost impossible to walk away without ordering something to eat. They offer great salads, homemade soups, rolls, quiche, vegetarian lasagne, vegetarian chilli, and jacket potatoes. There's also a fab selection of delicious homemade sweets.
We then took the dogs for a lovely walk down the canal, where they went for a swim and met lots of other dogs. Wheatcrofts Mill is easy to miss on your way through Matlock on the A6, which is a shame as it's a great place.
Note: For all dog owners...they offer free water and dog treats outside the restaurant!

Great news, Wheatcrofts now has an espresso machine, which now makes this lovely little cafe in a beautiful spot hard to beat!

I took the family here over the bank holiday weekend and the food was really nice and thankfully the weather was nice enough to sit outside. Definately worth a visit

This is a great place, hidden and so special. We often stop off for a light lunch and walk along the canal...you wouldn't think the A6 was so close!

All the food here is freshly prepared and very tasty and the homemade cakes are some of the best around - huge scones! The only downside is that the coffee is from a machine rather freshly brewed. The scenery is stunning and the path alongside the canal is flat and fairly smooth so is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. The cafe in Cromford Mill (opposite) is run by the same people, so if the Wharf is full you could go there instead.
