For all Harry Potter fans, this is the book shop for you!

Scarthin Books was recommended to fabulousplaces.co.uk by Carole Boyfield and following a visit myself, I completely agree it should be on the website. The bookshop spreads over 3 floors with a cafe hidden behind a book shelf.

Carole says: If ever there was a magical bookshop then this is it, containing far more books than could ever physically fit on the shelves.

The scent of freshly ground coffee and home-made cakes floats through each of the eccentric studies, shelves groaning under the weight of books that yearn to be read from the comfort of armchairs placed therein.

More a book-lovers oversized collection than a normal shop, one feels privileged to be allowed to actually purchase any of these treasured tomes!

The Cafe has quite a reputation for fantastic home cooked vegetarian and vegan delights. The food is all vegetarian with organic produce when possible, with vegan and gluten-free options available. Home-cooked seasonal produce provides the basis for a continually evolving range of wholesome and hearty meals, thick tasty soups, interesting (even puzzling) salads and tempting cakes.

A visit is highly recommended!

I visit Cromford to visit Scarthin Books. It is a complete delight, not only for the wonderful of range of new and secondhand books but also because it is a child friendly, comfortable place to spend a few hours just sitting reading. (The staff even welcomed my little Jack Russell, tired out by her walk along the nearby canal path.)Beware, you will find it very hard to leave this bookshop empty handed.

This shop has a fabulous feel to it. It's a propper book shop like book shops should be. It apears to be quite magical, whilst your in there you could get lost in time at least. It's one of those places your not too sure will have what your looking for when veiwed from the outside. It's only when you enter that you realise they have all you want and more! Not only do they have a very wide and varied selection of books but they're always more than happy to order titles if they don't have them. Then of course there is the cafe. I can highly recomend the soup and a roll or if your feeling alittle more peckish they always have the specials. All in all a lovely shop and cafe in a very beautiful setting.

Scarthin Books is quite a dangerous place - firstly it's much bigger on the inside and you can get lost in there. Secondly, time has no meaning once you're inside and minutes seem to have passed when really you've been gone hours. So if you are prepared to lose time and your way in a bookshop then I highly recommend this one. Oh, and you always leave with a book.
