Opening hours: Mon-Sat, 9am-5pm
One Saturday afternoon, leaving Fresh Basil with a friend, we noticed across the road a chalkboard sign saying ‘I Should Cocoa’ opening on Monday. Monday afternoon came and, after trying to resist, I called my friend and arranged to meet at I Should Cocoa for coffee. Upon arrival the shop aroma was delightful. Chocolate and coffee, the only other aroma, in my opinion, that comes close to this is fresh baked bread.
I Should Cocoa is run by Sid and Lisa who have previously lived in London and France. They offer artisan chocolates (made on site), homemade cupcakes, coffee, lunchtime fresh bagals and sandwiches and fresh coffee.
The seating area is set in a calming blue colour scheme with original wall art. I really like I Should Cocoa, so much so that I plan to return soon! Together, Lib and I cleared 2 coffees, 3cupcakes and some chocolates. I tried a rose cream artisan chocolate, something I wouldn’t normally go for, and I’m so glad I did, it was delicious!
I wish Sid and Lisa all the very best with their new venture and I hope you will find an opportunity to pop in. It is great to see so many unique small businesses opening in Derbyshire, very exciting!
I recently popped into I Should Cocoa and noticed they now have a new chocolate gift range, including a chocolate high heel shoe filled with assorted chocolates and also a chocolate gift box filled with chocolates, all of which you can eat!

I love this shop so much, Sid the man who makes these glorious chocolates is such a lovely man and every time we go in there he always has time for a chat in between making truffles! Truly a lovely piece of heaven tucked away in Belper! x

This place is great especially if you fancy indulging! I tried a full works hot chocolate with cream and marshmellows together will a hot chocolate fudge cake with ice cream - yes I am a chocoholic! Great decor, great food, great atmosphere and great service! I can't wait to return for my chocolate fix!

A great vibe, love the decor and the food. Home made bagels were fantastic. My kind of chilli hot chocolate, plenty of kick! And what a treat the chocolates were on the way home! Jule's loved the Guiness & Marmite (I was left confused!) the Jasmine tea ones were lush. Like I said, looking for houses near by so I can pop in on the way home and cheer myself up on rainy days.

We have just moved to Belper and I Should Cocoa was a major draw. The cafe is delightful, and their chocolates make wonderful gifts. Everyone I have given them to has raved about them. The rose and violet creams are perfect according to my Mum and she should know!

After tasting a chocolate on visiting Gifted recently, I had to pay a visit to I should cocoa. So, I treated myself yesterday (as my own little celebration for my boy's 2nd birthday). I couldn't wait to get home to sample the chocolates so ended up eating 3 in the car! Fantastic, I would definitely recommend a visit.

I think all the reviews say it all. They were enough to make me feel I had to visit!! The hot chocolate is out of this world...cocoa powder, I don't think so!!!! Real chocolate pieces! My favourite is a mix of milk and dark chocolate :o)

A friend and I spent a great Saturday afternoon here enjoying the wonderful cupcakes (think sex in the city cupcakes- but much more reasonable!) The staff are really attentive and it is obvious they really enjoy what they do. As for the chocolates...you should really go along to try for yourself, but be warned one is not enough!

This was a new and friendly coffee shop that was very brightly decorated and clean. As well as excellent scone and jam, the bottled lemonade was very tasty: and there speaks a beer drinker!

My husband bought me some for our anniversary and I am hooked. Try the salted caramels and the violet creams - you'll be back every week for more.

I have visited this place a couple of times recently and both experiences have been wonderful! The first was with a friend and my young son, who was extremely impressed by the chocolate foil wrapped shapes! We were extremely impressed with the lunch! The second time was yesterday afternoon, when I found myself with a free hour and this was my first thought. The service is fantasic the coffee is better and staff are extremely friendly.

I visited here today with my four year old son and we had a wonderful lunch. The ciabatta special was absolutely gorgeous and they were happy to cater for my child's choice of ham sandwich and olives! We also took some chocs away with us but we will be returning tomorrow for more! Very adictive i must admit.

The chocolates here are so delicious, you can taste the love they've been made with. Equally delicious are the home-made bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese, the hot chocolate, the cup cakes.... Well worth a visit when in Belper.
Lucy - 11/08/2008 11:10:00
I visited recently and tried the houmous, olives and pitta bread...yum! Of course, I went home with some chocolates too!

I can't rave enough about this shop! Okay....so anyone who knows me well enough knows I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm something of a chocolate snob. HAS to be min 65% cocoa solids, HAS to have no dreadful icky unnecessary additive-type-E-number thingys and without the commercial loading of veggie fats to cut down on costs. I should Cocoa is a real GEM! I tried one of their green tea truffles and thought I'd just die right there on the spot with a daft big grin on my face. Helpful staff who are passionate about their work. A true breath of fresh air, real artisans, genuinely nice people. All in all a MUST for anyone visiting this mighty fine county of ours!

The chocolates at I Should Cocoa are lovely. Also, the staff are so, so friendly.

I agree with Deb, I Should Cocoa is a fab addition to Belper. The staff are so friendly. Oh, and try a fresh baked bagal, they're yummy!

Firstly, the name really caught my attention. A lovely place to stop and re-charge the batteries after shopping. I have always been made very welcome and feel comfortable having some 'me' time whilst sipping coffee and reading. The very reasonably priced choice of handmade chocs is fabulous and a perfect gift for the person who has everything. p.s. the recipient will probably think you have spent a small fortune on this beautiful gift!
