Clare Gage is a Designer Maker working in ceramics. Clare makes slip cast porcelain ceramics which are sold through galleries across the country.
Clare's work can be seen at Created Gallery, Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield.
Clare's work is a fusion of textiles and ceramics. The textures and techniques of weave and stitch are brought together through the production of my ceramic pieces. Clare's work starts with fabric that she hand weaves. This fabric is then used to make fabric cups that are then created in porcelain. The range includes a collection of cups, tableware including plates and bowls and a selection of vases.
Clare has always been keen on making things, ever since she was a little girl. Clare said it could have been called an obsession! After graduating in July last year with a degree in Contemporary Applied Arts Clare wanted to continue with her creative work. Clare was given the opportunity to have a purpose built ceramics studio in Chesterfield and, from there, began building her business.
Clare's work has been short listed for the international ceramics contest of La Rambla in the category of ceramic design and new shapes. The pieces will be exhibited throughout August in La Rambla, Spain (www.ceramicadelarambla.com).
