Bluebells is a farm shop, cafe and ice cream parlour producing the most amazing ice cream, seriously good and made onsite….now that’s local produce at its very best!

Bluebells cafe offer some great light bites, my favourite being poached egg and bacon on toast (doorstep toast that is!). They use azorieblue coffee, which makes a mean cappuccino! However, I have to say, the most impressive thing about visiting Bluebells is the warm welcome you receive. Bluebells welcome children, families, walkers and I heard they will soon be providing a hand made cycle rack....it’s so refreshing to see a cafe making everyone feel so welcome!

The farm shop offers a great selection of fruit and vegetables, flour, preserves, soaps, cheese, yoghurts, sausages, free range eggs, bread and much more.

I have to say, the personal welcome by the Bluebell’s dog in the car park is just great! I very nearly invited the dog home! Bluebells also have a great outdoor play area, so definitely a fabulous place to visit with little ones.

I highly recommend a visit, but make sure you go with room for ice cream!

Here’s some information from Bluebells: The Brown Family have been milking cows at Brunswood Farm, Locko Park for over 50 years. Nearly three years ago they decided to make use of their fresh, creamy milk by adding to it the finest ingredients to produce a wonderful, hand made, luxury ice cream. Since then they have been busy working towards this goal.

Now thanks to an RDPE grant from the East Midlands Development Agency we have converted an old farm building into Bluebells and we opened on 13th December 2008.

We held a special 'non-birthday' party for our children here. What a party! The staff had set out a long table inside, nicely decorated and adorned with huge cake stands full of delicious home-made cakes. Price was per head and well worth the money. The tea included large plates of sandwiches, home-baked sausage rolls, veggie quiche, crisps .. and cakes to die for. We ended the tea with ice cream made on site. The party included feeding the animals. Brilliant service, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. Visit it!

Well what can I say, I am a huge Ice Cream Lover and stumbling across Bluebells has definitely made me and my family very happy! Plenty of parking, lovely feeding farm for the little ones and a wide range of outside equipment from swings and slides to a 12ft Trampoline. Everything is free apart from the animal feed which you buy in the farm shop. Which leads me nicely to the Tea Room. The food is a little pricey but there Tuna Bloomer Sandwiches are gorgeous! Now my favourite subject THE ICE CREAM! It is just FABULOUS. From Apple Crumble, Coffe Croisant, Cherry Amaretton, liquorice, cheesecake, ferrero rocher, kinder egg and the list goes on and on. You must visit this wonderful place. It will not fail to impress!

They stock an excellent range of produce, including, their own beef, local pork and lamb fresh veg, meat, fruit, jams, sauces, chocolates, dairy, muesli - all sorts!!. They make their own delicious ice cream with a good range to try. Lovely tea shop - food excellent and well priced. Can sit outside and watch the children on the play area or with the animals or enjoy the views. On a wet day they often have face painting or other activities to keep the kids entertained. The staff are excellent, very friendly and know what they are doing. Cannot recommend highly enough

Bluebells rating Great Afternoon out
Kath - 06/06/2009 20:00:33
It was an extremely wet morning so I decided to visit Bluebells a place I have heard much about. I have to say I certainly wasn't dissapointed. The shop is quite small but has everything you need and it is mostly local and as for the below review mentioning stale cake mine (banana and pineapple) was really delicious. The ice cream was quite simply the best I've ever tasted. A visit to Bluebells is definately a must for all!

I don't like knocking a place and was full of great expectations, but the coffee cake that was served yesterday (2nd June 09)to my mother and me had been on the counter for days - judging by the thick dry crust down each side. When I mentioned it to the boy behind the counter he offered no apology. Tea was good and place has great potential. I would suggest some outdoor seating under shade is provided for these very hot days.

Being something of an ice-cream purist I just had to pop over to Bluebells when I heard a whisper that they were making their own, and on my doorstep too. Mooo-ve over THE UDDER STUFF, for we have here a contender for your crown of Derbyshire's BEST! Rosemary and the team have succeeded in combining a hearfelt welcome with some amazing produce and a rising brand in the increasing maket area of Ice creams. Long may their success continue. PS you have to try their cheesecake flavoured ice cream, they are to die for!..............Which reminds me; I am long overdue a visit - make mine a LARGE! xx

Bluebells rating Absolutely worth a visit

Gorgeous icecream, a nice little farm shop and a great play area as well - the perfect package, especially on a sunny day. Lock Park is just next door too so a great location.

Bluebells rating Licorice Ice-Cream - yum!
Rachel - 03/04/2009 09:44:36
We loved visiting Bluebells on a sunny but chilly weekend recently. The ice-cream (especially the licorice flavour) is delicious, the shop is packed with interesting goodies and the food we saw coming out looked superb. The play area was perfect to keep our four year old entertained too. Can't wait to go back over the easter hols...probably along with every other family around!

Bluebells rating great place

I visited Bluebells at the weekend for the first time, what a great place! The sun was out and our children were playing outside, great place for all the family. Hopefully there'll be more goodies to go back and look at next time I visit.

Bluebells rating lovely place to get away!
Jane - 11/02/2009 16:36:40
I meet my friend at Bluebells every two weeks as a get away from the busy city. It's lovely to go somewhere that feels like you're in the middle on nowhere, drinking great coffee.
